THE DAILY TRMNL — PLUGIN SETUP

Use the public Recipe once its review is approved.
Build your feed at https://the-daily-trmnl.vercel.app: choose interests to include or exclude, add a custom prompt, generate your feed, then copy the generated prompt into the Recipe's Your news prompt field.

Developer Edition manual setup:
1. Create a Private Plugin using Polling.
2. Set Polling URL to https://the-daily-trmnl.vercel.app/api/briefing?prompt={{ news_prompt | url_encode }}&count={{ headline_count }}&format=trmnl
3. Paste form-fields.yml into Form Fields, save, and choose your news prompt.
4. Paste shared.liquid into Shared and each matching .liquid into Full, Half Vertical, Half Horizontal and Quadrant.
5. Choose Node in Serverless and paste transform.js.
6. Save, Force Refresh, and add to your playlist.

Automatic data updates are limited to every 15 minutes. Prompt changes reset that feed's history. History compares previous editions, not whether a person looked at a screen. Choose 1–20 headlines; default is 8. Full screen gives 1–3 stories more detail, 4–8 a compact list, and 9–20 two columns. Mashups show a smaller subset. Only matching stories are shown, so an edition can contain fewer than requested. The compact device endpoint keeps twenty rows within the 5 kB polling budget; website responses retain full source links.

Prompt matching searches for interests, names and phrases; it supports Avoid/Exclude, but does not interpret every possible writing instruction. Original-source headlines and short excerpts are attributed. GDELT dates are labeled Indexed because they are discovery times, rather than verified publication times. No matches are distinct from an outage; saved outage editions retain their original timestamp. Endpoint receives your prompt and ordinary web request information. No account or API key is required.

COLOR AND BLACK & WHITE
Use TRMNL framework 3.4.3 or later. Red/yellow accents adapt to the device palette automatically. Every grayscale tier uses explicit black/white text and badge fallbacks; labels and borders carry meaning without color. Headlines and sources remain black. Photos use image-dither for the target device palette; QR codes remain pure black/white. Website palette controls affect only the web preview, not your TRMNL settings.
